Virtual reconstruction of Gyula castle
As part of the Ágoston Kubinyi program, we received the commission from the Erkel Ferenc Cultural Center and Museum Nonprofit Ltd. to create a theoretical virtual reconstruction of the two eras of Gyula Castle. We chose 1566 and 1690, taking into account the available source material. We consulted András Liska and István Feld on the archaeological excavations of the brick castle and island fortress and their interpretation, and explained the military and architectural solutions of the fortifications with József Kelenik. Gergely Buzás provided effective help in the reconstruction of the market town’s church buildings, and the historical landscape was reconstructed by István Pánya. We created a 50 km2 historical landscape around the castle, where we also built the fortification and the market town next to it. Still images and an animated short film were also made from the completed material, and the reconstruction forms the basis of the new interactive application in the castle, as well as the starting material for the diorama exhibited in the castle. All of these can be viewed in the Gyula Castle exhibition.
