Monastery of Almád
The Abbey of Almád or Almád Monastery is located in the Balaton highlands, near the former, now-disappeared, settlement called Almád, next to today’s Monostorapáti. After its foundation in 1117, its church was consecrated in honor of the Virgin Mary and All Saints as early as 1121. It was already destroyed in the Middle Ages, this was caused by a series of looting, demolition, conversion into a castle, and later by the continuous removal of the stones of the remaining parts. After professionally excavating the ruins of the monastery, we prepared the theoretical reconstruction of the building based on the expert model of Gergely Buzás.
