Royal Palace of Doha, Qatar – 1930
At the request of Péter Nagy, a researcher of the history of Islamic architecture and an employee of Qatar Museums (the main authority for the protection of monuments and archeology), we prepared the theoretical reconstruction of the so-called old palace in Doha. Construction of the royal residence began at the beginning of the 20th century, and it took its final form in the 1920s. The Doha Palace was built by Emir Abd Allah bin Jassim, who led Qatar from 1913 to 1949, which became a British protectorate after the Ottoman rule, and which became independent more than a decade after his death. We made the reconstruction images based on contemporary photos and maps, as we did not have any other documentation. In addition, a video was created in which we can fly around the palace from a bird’s eye view, as well as a walking tour with VR glasses. The reconstruction video debuted at an exhibition presenting the architectural history of Doha, but can also be viewed on YouTube.
