The castle of Hegyesd in the 16th century
The castle of Hegyesd was built presumably in the 13th century, after the Mongol invasion, on a 281 meters high volcanic summit of the Balaton highlands. A serpentine road led up to the castle which was built according to a regular base plan. On the outer rim of this road ran a wall strenghtened with small ground-space towers, which was presumably broken through by several gates. The castle was destroyed in the war between Hungary and the Ottoman empire. The theoretical reconstruction was created along Gábor Nagy’s model, for a film on the Szigliget castle exhibition.
