Vault reconstructions
Research of late gothic vaults with the application of digital surveying techniques in Hungary. Medieval architectural remains are scarce in Hungary as a consequence of historic makings. As a consequence of the destructions during the Ottoman conquest and the large-scale reconstructions in the 18th century, the majority of the medieval monuments in the area are accessible via archaeological excavations. Balázs Szőke has been working on the modelling and digital visualization of perished vaults from the end of the 1990s. The surveying and lapidary research has been assisted by Gergely Buzás. Between 2012 and 2014, SziMe 3D AR a subproject for the SziMe 3D project made it possible for us to amalgamate the research of vault computer reconstructions with digital surveying methods. Participating in the project, the employees of Pazirik Informatics Ltd. led by András Balogh assisted in finding the utilization possibilities of digital data and in the combining of computer created models with the scanner surveys. The presented archaeological reconstructions have been created as an accomplishment of the joint work.
